Many years ago, 1975 to be precise, a stowaway was found on my ship after we had loaded in Tampa. The stowaway was a black US female and my next port was Durban, South Africa! By phone I got the Tampa agents to get the authorities in Fort Lauderdale, where I would pass the next morning, to arrange for the immigration people to come out to the Fairway Buoy in the pilot boat, meet me there, and take the stowaway back ashore. Whilst this was expensive, it was not going to be nearly as much hassle as it would have been in Durban in the haydays of Appartheid!
