DOCKMAN (1949)

DOCKMAN laid in the canal at Goole today, 62 years old and 50 years since I first saw her on the Thames.
Much altered over the years (like me).

Thanks Patrick, I don't seem to have a photo of her as STAMFORD BROOK (as built), perhaps someone can find one.

STAMFORD BROOK / DOCKMAN (1963 - 1973)
O.N. 182928. 68g. 68.0 x 19.5 x 7.4 feet.
As built: 7-cyl. 2 S.C.S.A. (230 x 42mm) Polar M471 type engine made in 1941 by British Polar Engines Ltd., Glasgow. 520bhp. 10kts. 5.8 tons bollard pull.
Post 1989: 12-cyl. 4 S.C.S.A. Detroit 12V-71 vee type engine by General Motors Inc, Detroit.650bhp. 8 tons bollard pull.
Post 2007: (new engine) 1000 bhp. 8.5 tons bollard pull
10.11.1948: Launched as STAMFORD BROOK by Henry Scarr Ltd., Hessle (Yard No. 618) for the River Lighterage Company Ltd., (Stephenson Clarke Shipping Ltd.), London.
1949: Completed.
3.1963: Purchased by the United Towing Company Ltd., Hull and subsequently renamed DOCKMAN.
21.1.1970: Owners restyled as United Towing Ltd.
1973: Sold to Cory Lighterage Ltd., London with the proposal to rename to REGAL, but remained as DOCKMAN.
1982: Sold to Harold Briggs, Christopher Ward & David Humphreys, Gravesend.
1983: Sold to Michael Devlin, Gateshead.
1984: Sold to John Bailey, Driffield (Bailey & Boynton Ltd., Hull).
1987: Sold to Humber Tugs Ltd., Grimsby.
1988: Re-registered at Hull.
1989: Sold to Tyne Towage Ltd., Gateshead and re-engined.
1992: Sold to Survey & Supply Ltd., Grimsby, rebuilt and renamed ALKELDA.
12.2.1998: Arrived on the R. Tyne, having been resold to Tyne Towage Ltd., and reverted to DOCKMAN.
6.7.1999: Reported as departing from the Tyne bound to the Thames / Dover.
2004: Reported under reconstruction at London by Thames Towage Ltd.
2007: Seen laid up in Dover Western Docks.
2009: Sold to Thames Towage Ltd, Canvey Island.

Making the comparison with the photos of TYBURN BROOK / PRESSMAN in a "before and after context", it certainly looks like a vast amount of steelwork was removed to reduce the bulwarks and deckhousing heights.

Presumably the three ex brooks were of a similar construction and underwent a similar rebuilding process.
