26-04-1955 sunk after collission with TAI SHAN in the Westerschelde near De Parel during a trip from Hamburg and Antwerpen to Piraeus in what 5 engineers died; in August 1955 raised by Bugsier and scrapped at J.Desmedt - Burcht.

A rare view of MARIT MAERSK in Piraeus sometime in 1940. Judging from the Greek flag painted on her side as a neutrality marking, it was taken after the requisition by the Greek Government and before October 1940 when Greece entered the war.

Thanks Aris. Nice photo indeed, but I think the painted flag is Danish?

It could have been the Danish flag. But a few seconds before in the same film, one can see another steamer (a Greek definetely) with the same flag on its side. I think it is the old version of the Greek flag (white cross on blue) that was used at that time as the national flag.
