Was given a copy of Picture No.1 with request to find out where - when - and what warship.
First thought coastal steamer might be Irish with later thought of the ships of Norther Steam Ship Co of New Zealand (the NZ
eqivalent of Davie Macbrayne) and while trying to identify steamers found Picture No.2 from NELSON in New Zealand which shows a very similar quayside panorama as Picture No.1.
Pleased to say owner was delighted to recall he did have relatives who went to Nelson in 1930s

Can anyone suggest a name for the warship on a port visit?Colin

The cruiser is a later Dido class of which 3 - Bellona (48-56), Black Prince (48-62( in reserve from 1955)) and Royalist (56-67) were in service with the RNZN. Royalist had lattice masts with the RNZN so it is one of the others.
