Built UCS and commisioned 14th. July 1970
Sold to Chile 1984
Scrapped China 2010

Well. if she met her fate last year, that is all 8 of the County class consigned to the history books.
They certainly made a big impression, quite imposing and certainly elegant, well proportioned.
However, it was the Sea Slug which was their achilles heel, and ironically, that was their raison d'etre.
We used to refer to it as the bow and arrow at the back, which when unleashed, used to make the most gawd awful mess of the entire quarterdeck and launcher, which was painted silver. I say was, as it took a split second to emerge black.

Antrim was built by Fairfield rather than UCS.

Antrim was the last grey navy ship they put in the water.
Also built sister Fife.
That's not bad, one quarter of the class in total, with the other 2 of the final 4 being built on the Tyne.

saw her off Portland putting on a display for her "new" owners prior to sale and she was majestically cruising at 36 kts. Long lost the 6x4 kodack photo.
