Ship : Trinidad (1824)

Post by Homers » Fri Jan 13, 2017 2:53 pm

I believe that a relative that I'm trying to trace either captained or was first mate on this ship TRINIDAD around 1881. I'm looking for any information on the ship (I believe built by William Simons in Greenock and first owned by Robert Eccles & Co Glasgow and first registered in 1824).
The man himself is called Neil Nelson originally from Sweden but lived and married in Greenock. He is registered in the census of 1881 as being on board the Trinidad 62067. That would make this ship 57 years old at the time of the census. I'm not sure if ships lasted that long or whether its is another Trinidad he must be on.
Anyone able to point me in the right direction in terms of where to search for information that might help with family tree and background of Neil Nelson or the Trinidad?

Many Thanks
