Information regarding Cargo Brig 'Silver Cloud' 1858 needed

Post by Peter Foele » Thu Nov 27, 2014 10:42 am

Hi,
I have been asked by a friend model-ship builder if it is possible to find information and building plans regarding the Cargo brig 'Silver Cloud'.

So far we know it has been built in Greenock by Scott John & Co on Yard 53.
She was laid in September 1857 and launched on the 17th of March 1858.
Classed as 9A1 type vessel, she measured 106ft 3/16'' long, with an extreme breadth of 20ft 1/16'' and depth from top of upper deck to beam of top floor at 11ft 7/16''. The gross tonnage came at 154.76.
The ships owner was James Murison (?) and was registered in Cape Town.

I have looked at the National Maritime Museum database, but there is no mention of her.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Peter

Nothing on the plans, but the editors over at Clydeships have now updated the data sheet

Hi David,
many thanks for your reply. My friend hsa sent me a picture of a model of the ship.
This model was built based on the Captain's recollection of the ship and was made out of wood after she was condemmed.

Any further information is always welcome.

Kind regards
