Royston Grange

Post by kevin » Thu Nov 04, 2010 10:47 am

After the collision 11.05.1972 she was towed into Montevideo and depending what you read was towed to Spain in 1974 or 1979. Does anyone have the correct date?

I have a note 5/1974 at Barcelona, presume broken up soon after.

Thannks George, i have sailed Montevideo 27.03.74 under tow of German tug Hansa and arrived Barcelona 20.05.74. I wonder where Miramar gets 1979 from.

Your dates are correct Kevin, I can see that Miramar has picked up a wrong date from the printed Schell register for 1959, will let them know and get it corrected.

The Late, John Hill could have told you all about that Kevin.

He went out to her following the fire.

He lived up near Hexham and he was Marine Super for Houlder's.

He used to be a regular at our WSS Branch Meetings and had a few bit and pieces published in "Ships in Focus"

It would not have been a very pleasant job the state she was in and with all those bodies, not a task for the faint hearted.

No your right.

He didn't talk about it very much, but I think it had a very lasting effect on him.
