The grey livery was not a great success. I think it lasted for only two years at the most.

It lasted till June 1983 so I think it was hardly a year. This is her inaugural sailing to New York with what was more or less Cunard colours with yours truly on board under the Bridge .......... We nearly didn't go as one set of turbines was still at Clydebank for repairs following their thrashing during the Falklands Campaign. We were on one set only and got an extra day both ways as a result. No complaints there!

Trafalgar House took over Cunard in the early 1970s and they set about increasing the luxury end of the accommodation by adding Penthouse Suites in the area behind the mast.

Her stern area was altered drastically during the 1980s, not enhancing her appearance. It was corrected to a certain extent by the end of the decade.

As launch day for the new Cunarder at Clydebank approached, speculation abounded as to her name. Some thought an old White Star name was being revived as CELTIC had appeared on her stern at one stage....

Remarkably it is 50 years to the exact day since her launch on September 20th 1967. Some memories of that day.
