HMS TIGER; John Brown 1959

Post by Deepol » Wed May 18, 2011 12:49 pm

Originally named BELLEROPHON she was launched at Clydebank in 1945 but not completed till 1959. In later years she was converted to a helicopter cruiser identified by the large hangar aft. She was decommissioned in the late 1970s and lay at the anchorages in Portsmouth Harbour until she went to Spain in 1986 for scrapping. I think she would have been the Royal Navy's last cruiser.
