With Regret

Post by wreckmaster » Sat Sep 24, 2016 5:51 pm

The domain clydesite.co.uk was due for renewal on the 17th of August 2016 but was not renewed and has now been suspended by the Domain registrar. The cost of renewal is about six pounds fifty pence, as the owner did have a fund raiser recently and sufficient funds were donated to cover running costs the reasons for not renewing must be other then financial.
The domain includes the Clyde Built Data Base and the Foghorn Board.

Thanks for the information wreckmaster. I stopped posting on Bruce's site many years ago but still visited it occasionally and got an impression that Bruce was trying to improve it. Lately, the database was hard to use compared with its former format particularly if you only had an inkling of a name, and I prefer the Caledonian Maritime Research Trust. Hard to keep the databases active and up to date with a group of volunteers and impossible for just one individual. Graham

Bruce seems to be engrossed in theatre now if his Facebook postings are anything to go by. Not too sure if the Database might still be held with Stuart Cameron.

Clydesite Family of Sites

Post by Robin Copland » Thu Oct 06, 2016 4:01 pm

That has been a couple of weeks now and though I was no longer such a regular visitor or contributor to the family of sites that came under the heading of Clydesite, it is a shame to see that it seems to have died a death. There were still a couple of regular contributors, Tom Careyette and Ruth Deane spring to mind on Foghorn! as well as regular contributions from Norway and Gibraltar and Paul, you yourself used to contribute manfully to the Clydebuilt site.

At least there are other sites as well as this "Lifeboat" that the late Angus, Charles, Alasdair and others set up a few years ago. We did used to have some fun, mind you, in the old days when there were so many regulars and the banter was so good.

Shame, but life moves on.

It's a pity that Bruce appears to have let it die; he put a lot of hard work into it over the years. The blessing is that a small dedicated group chose to create a new database of Clyde-built ships and so all credit to them for having that foresight.

Is Clydesite finished? It has disappeared in the past but has always sprung back up again. Not this time though.
