Re: Cruise Ship Visits to Greenock - 2019 / UNSCHEDULED CALL / COSTA MEDITERRANEA

Post by clydesider » Fri Apr 12, 2019 8:23 pm

Costa Crociere's 85,619 gt Costa Mediterranea is making an unscheduled call at GOT on Sunday 14 April.

This will be her maiden call.

She is on a 13 day Northern Europe Round Trip From Amsterdam cruise and was scheduled to be in Oban on Sunday. Perhaps it is going to be too windy there for safe tender operations.

She arrives from Belfast and is due on the berth around 8.00am. Departure time is 6.00pm when she will sail for Invergordon.

Astoria happens to be Ship of the Month in the May 2019 issue of Ships Monthly. However, they have put the wrong Astoria picture on the front cover. Definitely a case of what's on the box isn't what's in the box, as they sort of used to say at Kelloggs.

She has missed the Liverpool call because of Storm Hannah and her arrival at GOT is now likely to be earlier at 7.00am tomorrow.

The ship's name and Italian colours below it have been moved lower down the hull at the bow and I noticed this afternoon that the original embossed name at the bow has as a result been painted over in white.
Probably not a lot of people know that!

Timings have changed.

She is now expected at 7.00am GOT and will depart at 11.00pm.

She leaves the Holland America fleet on 1 July this year, so this is her last visit to the Clyde flying the HAL house flag.

Post by clydesider » Fri May 24, 2019 8:27 pm

Cruise & Maritime Voyages' 22,080 gt Marco Polo is making an unscheduled call at Greenock on Sunday 26 May.

She is on a 13 night Grand British Isles Discovery Cruise and should be in Oban on Sunday. Possibly the weather has caused the change.

She is due on the berth at GOT about 8,00am from Lerwick and is expected to sail for Belfast around 8.00pm.

It's been a bit hectic the past month,Jnt Warrior and Formidable Shield going on,as a consequence I have been neglecting the cruise ships.NoMore! I'll start off with Le Champlain,a new one that kicked off the season on May 6th.A rather dreich morning, but quite an attractive wee ship.Cheers Williemac

I saw her tonight passing Holy Isle outbound and then caught a bus to Whiting Bay to obtain a better view of her. I believe she is in fact heading for Torshavn, Faroe Islands.

She was sold to Chinese buyers last July and leaves the P&O fleet in August after her final P&O Cruise.

You'll need to be quick as she leaves the fleet next year after the second new-build, Spirit of Adventure enters service.
For those passengers not on free tours, Saga laid on a shuttle bus to the Oak Mall and Greenock Central Station!
