Timing change for MSC Meraviglia. Now in at 10.00am at GOT. Let’s hope it’s a decent day and that it does the turn in front of the Esplanade before arrival rather than at departure!

Regal Princess is likely to encounter rough seas during her passage towards Greenock and potentially this could delay her arrival into GOT until 9.00am or 9.30am tomorrow.

Went to Tesco in Greenock this morning, and could see that Nautica was alongside at GOT, and could see some of her drookit passengers wending their way along the pavement. About 30 mins later I drove down to the Esplanade and could see that Nautica was almost at right angles to the pier, with all stern moorings gone. She lay like that for around 15 mins and then they managed to get 2 tugs to her. I assumed that the wind had caused her to break her moorings and blew the stern off the pier. Once the tugs were made fast, and her engines fired up, she moved astern into the channel and swung round to starboard. I could see she still had a couple of headlines out, but they were eventually released, or parted. She then slowly made her way out to the Tail of the Bank and let go her starboard anchor, and the tugs let go. (A 3rd tug had arrived by this time.) As soon as the tugs were clear she started to drag her anchor---quickly! One of the tugs came back alongside to assist, and eventually the anchor began to hold. I then departed the scene and listened to the event on my radio scanner. I don't know whether the pilot was the original berthing pilot or not. Given the incoming weather forecast, I thought yesterday that Nautica would have fun and games at GOT, and was somewhat surprised she didn't cancel.

Tug ANGLEGARTH currently (1940hrs) rendezvousing with NAUTICA and AYTON CROSS – would assume the object of the exercise is to manoeuvre NAUTICA back to GoT.

Given that her scheduled departure time is 2200hrs, seems reasonable that she will be able to get back on schedule.

Once again, given today’s events, a further instance of “All Hail The Tugs”.

Possibly the captain was waiting for high tide, knowing there is likely to be a fork lift truck and probably a gangway beneath him when she docks.
I understand there were two volunteers from Inverclyde Tourist Group on board manning a Hospitality Desk when her lines parted. No doubt, they have had a rather nice lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, whilst they wait to get ashore!
Thankfully there were no injuries.

Just one visitor this week,
Saturday 29th September – COLUMBUS (63,786grt, 1,817 pax) in from Ullapool out to Belfast.

We appear to be at the end of the “Cruise-ships Season” – but let’s not forget visits from HEBRIDEAN PRINCESS on 30th October and 6th, 12th and 18th November.

Started this thread in March this year, pleasantly surprised to see the number of views, as of now, exceeds 10,000…..

Would like to thank in particular Williemac and Riverman for their photographic contributions – reckon we have a great pictorial history of ships visiting our shores this year – also many thanks to all other contributors to this thread, enabling it to reach in excess of 10,000.

Just when you think the season is finished!
Silversea Cruises’ Silver Wind is calling at GOT tomorrow, arriving at 7.00am from Belfast and sailing at 6.00pm for Torshavn, Faroe Islands.
She is on a one way trip from London Tilbury to Reykjavik, but her original itinerary seems to have been re-jigged.

Sadly, the international cruise-ship season comes to an end – however, we still have several weeks of visits from HEBRIDEAN PRINCESS, cruising well-known Scottish locations.

Thanks again to all contributors to this thread – reckon it’s been a very worth-while exercise.

Here’s to 2019………
