SOUND OF SANDA

Post by yorkieman » Mon Aug 16, 2010 8:34 pm

At McInroy's Point 11/8/2010
Arnhemsche Scheepsbouw in 1964 as GEMEENTE PONT 24 for Amsterdam, does anyone have the yard number for this and her sister SOUND OF SCALPAY (GEMEENTE PONT 23)?

Nothing in Lloyds, George, as you probably have already worked out.

Will make enquiries yorkieman, have regular contact with member of long time engineering staff(now retired) but still has family with WF. Don't hold your breath though George. He's an Angus as well but a Lewis one, much more thorough than some other islanders we are familiar with!

George, according to John Newth's web site

Sanda is built 1963, by Gutehoffnungshulte Sterkrade, Akflengesellschaft, Rheinwerft, Walsum, Germany (Yard No. 1002)

Scalpay is built 1961, by Arnhemsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij N.V., Arnhem, Holland (Yard No. 403)

Good thinking there Stewart, didn't know John had his own site and my friend Angus confirms John will have got it right. Interestling he told me he went to St Kilda once with pax on a WF craft, a bit faster than todays fleet.

Many thanks for this correction, consecutive numbers but 2 years between them and different builders.

Thanks Henke, quite close to home for you as these were Amsterdam River Ferries as was De Hoorne which became Western Ferries Sound of Sleat.

Hahaha, not quite close Stewart: 250 km driving but I have a friend who is collecting that kind of ships, so from him I got the tip!
