Reach for the Atlas...

Post by Deepol » Tue Jun 06, 2017 10:48 am

Trainspotting before it became railway enthusiasm was considered to be a daft hobby and still is regarded as such to a certain extent.
I have seen this subject raised by others as to how actually educational it was. In just one instance, Jubilee Class locomotives were named partly after British Empire possessions and locos such as this, 45598 BASUTOLAND prompted me and others to scan maps to find out where this place was!
In South East Africa it is now Lesotho.
Sadly we do not have an Empire any more but any naming of locomotives now tend to be of personalities or corporate companies although it's still fun I suppose to Google those!
