92023 on test

Post by Deepol » Thu Apr 26, 2012 11:08 am

92023 was one of ten BR 9F 2-10-0 locos fitted with Franco- Crosti boilers with the unique side exhaust. This interesting BR photo shows her on test on the Glasgow and South Western route to Carlisle and was taken on Hurlford shed, Kilmarnock. Remarkably the whole train is there. I worked with an Inspector who accompanied these trials.
The locos were eventually rebuilt as conventional locos with the exhaust in the traditional place.

She actually features in the background to this photo of how many spotters can you get onto a 9F for a Group Photo!
