Three's company...

Post by Deepol » Tue Aug 02, 2011 6:35 pm

The Port Talbot to Llanwern iron ore trains were regularly triple headed by Class 37s in the 1970s before double heading by Class 56s suceeded that. This is one taken at Cardiff in March 1977 with 37303, 37308 and 37241 in charge.
Triple heading of the Hunterston to Ravenscraig ore and coal trains could be seen here as well but just between Mossend and Ravenscraig when an additional loco was attached to help them round the sharp curve and gradient to Holytown.

Class 56 locos in pairs replaced the 3 x 37s and these are two in action, again taken at Cardiff in June 1985.
