One of the Corinthic Class GOTHIC was completed in December 1948 by Swan Hunter at Wallsend. She is famous of course as she was chosen to act as Royal Yacht for the 1952 Royal Tour of Australia and New Zealand. Sadly the death of King George VI saw this cancelled but because so much work had been carried out converting her at Birkenhead she went back there in 1953 to have the conversion completed and she overtook Royal Yacht duties in 1954 for the Coronation World Tour of which a splendid film exists, Journey of the White Swan I think it was called.
After the Tour she settled back into Shaw Savill life but sadly came to prominence again in 1968 when she suffered a serious fire resulting in the deaths of seven members of her crew. She was however repaired I think in New Zealand but eventually fate caught up with her and she arrived at Kaohsiung on 13th August 1969 for scrapping.
