Re: SIZE OF VESSELS MOVING ON THE CLYDE?

There's a very larger bulker JAGUAR MAX (229m x 32m) anchored in Brodick Bay at the moment. Came from Belfast but doesn't have a destination showing on AIS. One to watch tomorrow - could be on its way up to Shieldhall. If it is I think at 229m it will be the biggest one that's been up river for a wh...

Can anybody explain why this is moving a short distance on a barge rather than being towed down? Thanks.

I see another big bulker, Flag Evi, is currently in the firth show as Glasgow as her destination. Looks like a split animal feed load with Belfast.

Re: SBI Zumba Heading For Hunterston

Well spotted, but this ship is not discharging a cargo at Hunterston. She suffered damage in heavy weather and is only using Hunterston as a berth to have repairs carried out. The Comanche was indeed the last ship ever to bring coal to Hunterston to be unloaded, she was the second and last ship to ...

SBI Zumba Heading For Hunterston

Evening all

I see on ShipsAIS that thelarge bulker SBI Zumba is rounding the Mull of Kintyre with her destination showing as Hunterston. I think this is the first large ship to call there since Longannet Power Station closed down.

Thanks or posting the pictures. 1970 was just a wee bit too early for me to remember - I was 6 - but many of them were still familiar sights when I started to get interested in shipping a few years later. Keep them coming......

Paul/Dennis Thanks again for the pictures and the info about Rothesay Dock. I'm now starting to think that I might remember the sheds - but then again...... Keep the pictures coming. Unfortunately I wasn't taking many pictures back then so can't really offer much in return. But I do have lots of mem...

Deepol / Dennis Thanks for posting the pictures. Lots of great memories there.  Love the pictures from Rothesay Dock in the other threads. I was born and brought up not far from there but it was towards the end of the 70s before I was a regular visitor. I don't remember the sheds on the...

Large bulker Federal Yukon (LOA 199m) currently rounding the Mull of Kintyre showing Glasgow as her destination on Marine Traffic. I'm not sure if this is an animal feed shipment but she is coming from Montreal and, unlike other animal feed shipments, doesn't appear to be calling at Belfast first. H...

Final set for the moment.

Unfortunately, the weather at the end of August wasn't as good as the first two weekends in September, but it was good enough to catch the bulker, Castillo De Valverde, leaving Hunterston.

Some shots from the Firth the weekend before last. The weather was the opposite of this weekend - calm as a mill pond and the start of the day but with the wind picking up and cloud rolling in during the afternoon.

And a few more. It was misty when we set off but we were honoured to have a porpoise wake surfing with us between Cumbrae and Little Cumbrae. First time I've had that and it was the most fantastic thing ! You can just see it to the left of the wake close to the centre of the picture.
