Both of the dry dock basins at Swansea Dry Docks were flooded recently,so the demolition of HMS CORNWALL has been completed.

Great shots.We have a lot of similar shipping coming in regularly, up the river Neath,between Swansea and Port Talbot, into Briton Ferry,which is very near to the river mouth.

SAND WEAVER

After approximately six months in Swansea Swansea Dry Dock's repair berth,the dredger 'Sand Weaver' sailed yesterday under a new flag bound for Malta.The slightly larger 'Sand Harrier' remains on the repair berth,presumably also awaiting sale.

'Research Vessel' Discovery arrived for work at Swansea Dry Docks yesterday morning.

In addition since the Terra Marique was refittedin the early part of the year,they have broken up the SD Tormentor which was towed down from Greenock,where I believe she was a Torpedo Recovery vessel.

Yes George,At the time of the appearance of WCT,Patrick Lyon,who I thinks now manages SMS, was the Swansea/Port Talbot manager for ACT/Ho Smith.

The W.C.T arrival in East Wales in the '90's led in a matter of months to the loss by Alexandra of the Port Talbot contract ,after which ACT's days in the Bristol Channel were numbered,so from little acorns an oak trees grew.

Any idea of the reaction from Svitzer? Something was mentioned on Tug Talk,but later withdrawn and can't be read. The 'Terra Marique' was dry docked by SDL today having been deliverd by the tug Voe Chief.As far as I am aware this is the first project they have undertaken,for the benefit of the Port,and the local economy,hopefully more will follow.

According to their Company Website their Environmental Licences have now been granted,so presumably they could soon be welcoming some ships.

Local Press reports that Swansea Dry Dock Ltd are about to be graned a licence to operate by the Environment Department,and as the dockside upgrading has been continuing it seems likely then that they will be operational shortly.Their website is now on line as well.

Couldn't agree more Keith.I have no inside knowledge,but I assume that it would be the intention to return to those colours.

Pilot Vessel SEAMARK.

The Swansea PV Seamark was recently towed back to Swansea from Cardiff where she has been based since being taken out of service.She is currently berthed in the Kings Dock,and it seems that she is destined for Swansea's Waterfront Museum.

The dry dock quays are currently being surfaced with reinforced conctete paving,which through the glasses looks to be substantial and heavy duty.No ships yet,but the investement they are putting in looks serious indeed.

It looks as though Swansea Dry Docks Ltd. have commenced their operations at the dry dock complex.They have been carrying out various work around the basinsduring the past 10 days,and yesterday a company advertising board was fixed to the lock gate handrails,Lets hope for some work for them soon.

Some activity visible at the Dry Dock last week.A few vehicles seen near the gates,and one of the basins was opened last week,and still remains so today.Of course it could just be ABP keeping things ticking over.

It seems that the SDL bid has won the day,and Harris Pye will now withdraw completely from Swansea after 31st March.Judging by their comments they are not too happy.The Swansea/Cork Ferry Julia is currently in the Dry Dock for her annual maintenance,presumably this will be their last job there.
